Chapter 16 Reflection

1.The phrase “printing money” tends to be tossed around in discussions about the money supply.  How important is cash to the overall money supply?  In our system the Federal Reserve Board has at least some control over the money supply.  How are they related to the Federal government?

Cash is actually not very important to the money supply, fiat money, is only important in referencing the value of something. The FED is related to the government because the FED regulates the quantity of money in the U.S. The federal reserve is the central bank of the U.S.

2.What was the FRB’s latest change to the money supply? (This summer they targeted a .25 drop in the interest rates they watch.)  Why did they make the change they did? Do you agree it was needed to either boost or slow the economy?

The FRB targeted a drop of .25 in interest, they made this change to increase the liquidity of money supply in the U.S. I agree that this was necessary to boost the economy.
